The winners of ‘Co-op Hot Shots’ was announced on 13 April 2021. The co-operative photography competition drew the best shots from Singapore and across the world, capturing the co-operative spirit.

Themed Make the Difference, Co-op Hot Shots in its eighth edition invited photography enthusiasts to submit their best shots for the competition from 4 January to 28 February 2021.

A shot of supporting local small businesses by Thie Santoso Fongerts bagged the first prize among the local entries, while Tan Ee Long from Malaysia with his shot of volunteers assisting vulnerable groups for COVID-19 swab testing triumphed as the winner in international category.

SNCF received over 550 entries from 19 countries, including Singapore, Austria, Bangladesh, Belarus, India, Iraq, Malaysia, Philippines, and Turkey.  A panel of judges comprising Allan Lee, founder of OurShutterJourney; Ronald Low, Chairperson of Istoria Co-operative; and Patsie Tan, SNCF selected the winning shots based on articulation of the theme and composition.

"It was heartening to review the images submitted as there were many that were of quality and reflected the theme, Make The Difference. It is my hope that everyone who had submitted would continue in their photography journey to capture the beautiful and important moment in life itself”, Ronald commented.

The winners in the local category showed how we have pivoted from the impact of the pandemic to continue on with daily life, while the winners in the international category, from Malaysia, India and the Philippines, documented scenes of healthcare workers and other professionals as they continue to battle the pandemic in their countries or to keep life going.

Allan added, “This year's theme - Make the Difference - is appropriate as it reflected this trying time. The world's economy almost came to standstill due to COVID-19 but this is also the time to bring out the best in people. The human spirit of giving and rendering assistance to others are clearly expressed through images from all over the world. These entries also highlighted another element - joy. When I was doing the judging, some of the entries brought tears to my eyes. I was touched by what others are doing to help others during such a difficult time. Other entries brought a smile to face knowing that people are not giving up and doing whatever they can to keep life going. Good job everyone, even if you did not win this round, your story had etched a deep impression on me. Thank you and stay safe - wherever you are.”

Echoing the spirit of helping others are the shortlisted submissions in the Social Category which capture meaningful acts by others to bring relief and aid to those in need. Five shortlisted entries were uploaded on SNCF’s Instagram (@sncfsg) for public voting from 5 April to 11 April.
