On 4 February 2021, the Singapore National Co-operative Federation (SNCF) welcomed the year together with the co-operators in its first virtual event of the year. Themed “Emerging Stronger Together with Co-ops”, the event aimed to recognise co-operatives’ efforts in overcoming the challenges brought by COVID-19 pandemic, as well as encourage co-ops to soldier on and emerge stronger together in the coming year.

As part the event, energy booster boxes with encouraging messages from the Chairman of Central Co-operative Fund, the Executive Director of Registry of Co-operative Societies, the Chairman of SNCF were sent to all affiliates. The energy booster box contained various items such as a motivational game set, nutritious snacks, and a jar of cookies baked by ISCOS Co-operative’s Titian with 70% of the sales going to support ISCOS ReGen Fund.

At the event, SNCF CEO Mr Ang Hin Kee shared with the co-operators several initiatives that are follow-ups to the discussion at the ‘Emerging Stronger Conversation’ event. He also introduced the new SNCF Executive Council chaired by Mr Tng Ah Yiam.

Mr Tng in his address stressed the need to build a stronger alliance of co-operation and to work towards the development of high governance standards so as to enable the co-operative movement to stay ahead. He also put on record our appreciation to the late Chairman Kwek Kok Kwong and former First Deputy Chairman, Dr Theyvendran for their contributions to the Co-operative Movement.

During the event, Ms Shena Foo, Service Sector Chair welcomed three new co-operatives - A Good Space Co-opAgape Energy Efficiency Co-op, and Helmet and The Penguin Co-op - to the family.

There was also a video montage showing how co-operatives when faced with unprecedented challenges caused by COVID-19 remained united and caring.

Rounding off the event was the lucky draw segment where five lucky winners walked away with a $50 NTUC e-voucher each. When co-operatives work together, we are confident that we will emerge stronger and better together!
