This year’s International Day of Co-operative will fall on 6 July 2024, the first Saturday of July.
With the theme “Co-operative build a better future for all”, co-operatives around the world can revel in the opportunity to highlight their current and historical contributions to building a sustainable future – all while accelerating the United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Mr Jeroen Douglas, Director General of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), said: "As we celebrate the significant and often quiet contributions of cooperatives, it is also time for us to reflect on what we have accomplished to build a better future, and what we can do better together."
Last year’s International Day of Co-operative highlighted the role co-operatives play in achieving the SDGs. The co-operative way of working, alongside their values and principles, is known to empower communities and advance various SDGs.
"Let's use this day to be inspired to collaborate, examine all the possibilities to reach the SDG goals, and take action to achieve them," he adds.
According to the ICA, co-operatives looking to participate in 2024 #CoopsDay can showcase “high standards for inclusive and sustainable growth, and service as stewards for protecting the environment and fighting climate change.”
This year’s International Day of Co-operatives will build the momentum towards the 2025 International Year of Cooperatives, which was declared by the UN last year.
