EDM Dame Pauline
(Dame Pauline Green with SNCF CEO, Dolly Goh at the ICA & ICA-AP Dinner in March 2015)

It was with sadness that we read the news of ICA President Pauline Green announcing her retirement during the annual meeting of Co-operatives UK in Birmingham on 26 June 2015. The first female president in the alliance’s 120-year history, Dame Pauline was a major contributor to the co-operative movement since assuming the position in 2009.

Caring for seniors is not easy. If the elderly person being cared for suffers from age-related illnesses such as dementia and Alzheimer’s, the process can be made all the more trying for the caregiver. That’s when an enterprise such as Silver Caregivers Co-operative Limited (SCCL) steps in to help.

The Campus & Youth team was present at the Youth Entrepreneur Symposium (YES) 2015 on Wednesday, 17 June 2015 to spread awareness on the co-operative way as a potential business model for future young entrepreneurs to follow. YES 2015 is an inaugural youth-run symposium organised by entrepreneur clubs from the 5 polytechnics. SNCF was also one of the sponsors for the event.

In support of our Co-operative friends in Nepal and Vanuatu, the SNCF made a donation of USD $10,000 to the Singapore Co-operative Disaster Relief Fund. Of the donated amount, USD $7,000 went to Nepal while the remaining USD $3,000 went to Vanuatu. Six of our affiliates, including Doris from Phoenix Co-operative Society Ltd who made a donation in her personal capacity, contributed a collective further donation of USD $2,206, bringing the total amount to USD $12,206.

The Annual Co-operative Leaders' Conference (ACLC) took place from 30 May - 2 June 2015 this year. Hopefully, the conference gave our affiliates a few ideas on how to make their businesses more "sustainable through creativity".

Do good, do well! In an ongoing effort to spread the good word of the co-operative movement to young minds, the SNCF Youth and Campus Team made appearances at Dunman High School and Ngee Ann Polytechnic on 15 May and Jurongville on 18 May.
